Question
How can I file an extension for my Oregon state taxes?

Answer

Extensions of time to file

If you can’t file your Oregon return by the due date, you may be able to get a six-month extension of time to file. For 2020 returns, this means you have until October 15, 2021, to file.

An extension of time to file your return doesn’t mean you have more time to pay your taxes.

You must pay any tax you expect to owe by April 18, 2022. If you don’t, you will owe interest on the unpaid balance from April 19, 2022 until the date it’s paid, and will be subject to a minimum penalty of 5 percent of the unpaid tax. To avoid penalty and interest charges, include enough payment with your extension to cover your tax liability. Once you file your return, if you have overpaid, we'll refund the overpayment. See “Interest and penalties” for more information
