Return Sent Back for Correction

Question
Return Sent Back for Correction

Answer

The IRS returns about 1 percent of submissions for corrections. Usually this is because of a typo in the data entered (an incorrect EIN on a W-2, a misspelled name or a typo in a SSN). Most errors have been added to the knowledge base for your convenience. If your return is sent back for correction, complete the following steps:

  • Login to your account at  www.oltpro.com or through your Desktop Software and click on the efile tab to get to your rejected list.
  • From the rejected list click on get status of your client to see the error codes from the IRS.
  • Click on edit to go through to the screen where you need to correct the data you entered and save and continue once you correct it.  The error code information will also be available within your client inputs for additional reference.
  • Retransmit the return to be submitted to the IRS.  Please Note: if you do not correct the error, your clients return will not be accepted. Please contact customer service if you have trouble finding the error.
