🔓 How to Thaw a Credit Freeze (Lift or Unfreeze)

🔓 Having Trouble Ordering Credit or Logging In?

You may have a credit freeze (also called a security freeze) on your Experian report.

This freeze helps protect your identity, but if you're applying for housing or completing identity verification or a credit order through Rent Perfect, you'll need to temporarily lift (thaw) that freeze to proceed.

⚠️ Who Needs to Thaw Their Credit?

✅ Tenants completing the Rent Perfect online application and ordering credit
✅ Landlords completing Rent Perfect's identity verification process to activate or re-authenticate their account (required every 90 days)

🧊 How to Thaw Your Credit with Experian

For your security, Rent Perfect cannot access or manage your freeze. You must thaw it directly through Experian.

🔗 Go to: experian.com/help/credit-freeze

👣 Steps:

1. Sign in to your Experian account (or create one if you haven’t already).
2. Select the option to "Temporarily lift" or "Remove" your security freeze.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts and confirm the thaw.

🕒 Once thawed, you can return to Rent Perfect and:

• Complete your credit order (tenants)
• Complete identity verification and sign in (landlords)

If you’ve authorized Rent Perfect to run your background and know your TransUnion credit is frozen:

✅ After the Thaw: What to Expect

🔄 Once the freeze is lifted:

• Tenants can re-sign into the application and retry the credit order. If needed email [email protected] to request an additional attempt. 
• Landlords can return to rentperfect.com and complete identity verification to access their dashboard.

If you're still receiving a freeze error, double-check in your Experian/TransUnion account that the thaw was successful.

Alerts creditors to verify your identity before opening credit. This may interfere with credit ordering if your identity info does not match exactly.
