The balance due must be paid in full with your return. You may pay the balance due online with an electronic check or a debit or credit card. The electronic check option is free. North Dakota contracts with a national payment service to provide the debit or credit card option. There is a fee for the debit or credit option, none of which goes to the State of North Dakota. To pay online, go to www.nd.gov/tax/payment. If you are filing a paper return and paying the balance due with a paper check or money order, complete a 2021 Form ND-1PRV payment voucher and enclose it with the payment.
However, if you are filing your return electronically, complete and submit a 2021 Form ND-1V with the paper check or money order. Make check or money order payable to “ND State Tax Commissioner,” and write the last four digits of your social security number and “2021 Form ND-1” on your check or money order. A check must be drawn on a U.S. or Canadian bank, be in U.S. dollars, and use a standard 9-digit routing number. A check drawn on a foreign bank (except one in Canada) cannot be accepted.
