The IRS returns about 1 percent of submissions for corrections. Usually it is because of an error in the data the taxpayer has entered (an incorrect EIN on a W-2, a misspelled name or a typo in a SSN). The most common error message relates to the Self-Select PIN Program. The most common IRS error codes have been added to the knowledge base for your convenience. If your return is sent back for correction, complete the following steps:
From our homepage, click on "sign in" to enter the username and password to access your account. Select the current year return that is rejected.
Review the rejection indicated on your account. If you are unsure what the rejection is saying, please search the OLT Knowledge base or contact customer service for assistance.
Please note that if you do not correct the error and resubmit, your return cannot be accepted by the IRS.
You may also call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 to get further details concerning your specific error.
