Answer

Labels are fed through the printer 24 inches at a time resulting in a flashing pause LED light. (LX800/810)

The LX800/810 is not properly sensing your label stock.  Check the following settings:

SENSOR TYPE SETTING. Make sure the sensor type setting in the printer driver matches the label stock installed in the printer.  It is probably currently set to reflective and should instead be set to Die-cut/Through-hole.

To change the sensor type follow these steps:

1. Remove the label stock.
2. Close all programs.
3. Go to Start - Printers and Faxes - Right Click on the Color Label Printer - Choose Preferences.  Change the sensor type.  Click Apply.  Close and reopen the preferences and verify the change was made.
4. L
oad the label stock.
5. Open NiceLabel or your design program and create a new label.

If Nice Label or other printing programs are left open while attempting to make this change it can cause the setting to be reverted back if the program has saved the printer settings with the design file.  See Note below.

A description of each setting is below:

Die-cut/Through-hole is the default setting.  Use this setting for standard die-cut stock or through-hole stock.  If you are using through-hole stock you will need to adjust the sensor position.  See the sensor position explanation below.

Reflective should be used for label material with a pre-printed black line that indicates the break between labels.  If you are using this type of stock you will need to adjust the sensor position.  See the sensor position explanation below.

Continuous Feed is used for label stock that has no black mark, die cut or through hole. The label sensor will be turned off and the LX800 will start printing at whatever point is nearest.  Use this setting only for stock that will be cut after printing.  Click here for more information.

Note: The Sensor Type setting is set in the printer driver but it is stored in the printer itself.  This becomes important if you are printing a Nice Label file that is saved with the incorrect sensor type settings.  Each Nice Label file has the print settings saved along with the file.  It is possible for the printer to be set to the correct sensor type but since the label file saves the print settings it will change the sensor type right before it prints.  To fix this, simply change the print settings for that file via Nice Label and save the label or recreate the label after you have changed the default setting using the procedure above.

SENSOR POSITION. The sensor position may need to be adjusted for your label stock.  The sensor can be adjusted using the slide bar on the inside of the printer.  Below the slide bar is a measurement which represents the distance between the edge of the label stock and the sensor. Measure the distance from the edge of the label stock to the center of the through-hole, black line or die-cut label.  Set the sensor to this measurement.

Note on Die-cut labels: When using Die-cut labels it generally does not matter what position the sensor is in as long as it is between the left and right side of the label so that it can sense the gap between the labels.  However, if you are using circular die-cut labels make sure the sensor is set to the very top of the label where the circles are closest together.  If the sensor is too far to the right or the left the printer will still sense the label but the image may be offset downward because the printer will start printing at the wrong position.
