Question
W2-G information error

Answer

The most common problem is the Payer Identification Number on the W-2G being mistyped into the program.  The entry must be numeric (do not include a hyphen if included on your form).  No other characters allowed in this field.  The number is matched to the Payer Name Control which must also be typed in correctly to match this ID.

How to correct this error:

From our homepage, click on sign in to go to your account. Access the return to make the correction for the W-2G.

Next, select the Income page in the federal return, scroll down the page to "other income" (show more).  You will then select edit at the W-2G then the yellow edit box on the summary page to return to the form entry and make corrections.

If you have entered the information exactly as it appears on your W-2G, you must contact the issuing company for corrections. You may also be able to find out additional details by contacting the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or 1-800-808-4262.

Once you have made your correction you will then save and continue to the end of your return and resubmit.

*We strongly recommend checking the status of your return in 24-48 hours using the Login to My Income Tax Return link to verify that your return has been accepted.
