Question
Software Error 104 (Burn file is invalid) - PTPublisher - Error appears in job log

Answer

This error stops a job before it ever gets started.  It means the burn file is invalid.  This could mean several things.

1. The file name may not conform to the chosen file system.  If the file name is a very long file name or one with special characters, it may not be a file that can be burned to disc.  This is especially true if you have chosen a restrictive file system such as ISO 9660.  File systems can be changed for most project types on the Summary Page (Step 3) of the project setup process.  Click the More Options button to change it.

2. As a test and to anaylyze the data burn of the same data using a different burn program such as Roxio, Nero or Primera PrimoDVD.  These programs do a scan of the data before burning and provide a report of files that do not conform to the chosen file system.  Since Primo, Roxio, or Nero will not recognize the disc publisher you will have to manually put the disc in the drive but it should still see the drive and burn to it.  After reviewing the report, remove the files that do not conform from the folders to be burned.

3. The file may no longer exist.  If you have opened a saved job that refers to files that were moved or deleted you will get this error.

4. Some files may be inaccessible due to permissions issues.  This can be the case if you are attempting to burn files from a network drive or shared files from another computer.
