Question
The error message “The specified print monitor is unknown” appears when attempting to install a shared Primera printer over the network on a Windows Vista computer.

Answer

The error message “The specified print monitor is unknown” appears when attempting to install a shared Primera printer over the network on a Windows Vista computer.

This error message is caused when UAC is disabled on the Vista computer.  To resolve this error, you must re-enable UAC using the steps found below.

1. Click the Start (Windows logo) button and navigate to All Programs.  Go to Accessories and click Run.

2. Type in msconfig and click the OK button.

3. Go to the Tools tab.

4. Scroll down and click on Enable UAC.

5. Click the Launch button.

6. Reboot the computer and attempt to install the printer again.

Note that this must be done on the client computer (the one remotely connecting to the printer), not the host computer (the computer the printer is physically connected to).

Please see this article for more information on properly sharing a Primera printer over the network.
