Question
Unable to print or change settings from Mac Preview or other applications. On the print screen, instead of Printer Settings, "PrinterName"PDE is displayed crossed out.

Answer

Unable to print or change settings from Mac Preview or other applications. On the print screen, instead of Printer Settings, "PrinterName"PDE is displayed crossed out.

There are two possible reasons for this problem:

1. Using the latest Intel processor Macs and older print drivers causes this error because the old drivers do not use Universal Binary code which is necessary to run properly on Intel Macs.  Either update the driver to the latest version or run in Rosetta mode as the rest of this article instructs.

2. Using OS 10.6 running 64-bit applications such as Preview will produce this error.  To fix run the application in 32-bit mode as the rest of this article instructs.

Below is an example of what is shown in the print window. The crossed out text corresponds to the printer type you have - DiscPublisherProPDE, DiscPublisherIIPDE or DiscPublisherXRPDE, Label800PDE or Label810PDE.

Follow these steps to fix this problem:

1. Open applications.
2. Right click or Ctrl left click on Preview (or the Application that you are not able to print from).
3. Click Get Info.

4.
Check the Open using Rosetta box or Open in 32-bit Mode depending on your situation.

5. Close the application (Preview). To be sure it is closed, right click or ctrl left click on the application in your dock and choose Quit. Now print like you normally would.

Note: This procedure will work for any application in addition to Preview that shows the crossed out PDE file instead of Printer Settings.
