Answer

The eSATA card that came with my Blu-ray Bravo Disc Publisher does not work in my iMac, Macbook, MacPro or PC.  (Bravo 4100 Blu Series, Bravo SE Blu, Bravo XRP Blu)

If the included eSATA PCI express card does not work with your computer either because it doesn’t have an available PCI express card slot or because of incompatibility with your computer motherboard, there are several possible options.

For PC users:

  • USB to eSATA converter.  There are many different brands available.  You will need one for each BDR drive in your Disc Publisher.  This is a great option if you do not have an open PCI express card slot.  Please note: if your computer does not support USB 3.0 this option will still work.  However, you will experience slower burn speeds IF you are using two of these converters for a two BDR drive Disc Publisher.
  • SATA to eSATA Plate Adapter.  This mounts into an open card slot and looks very much like an eSATA PCI express card except that it connects directly into open SATA ports on your motherboard.  This is the same port that the hard drive or internal optical drive is connected to.  You must have one available for each drive in the Disc Publisher.  This is a great option because it preserves the SATA format from your motherboard all the way to the drive.  The difference between eSATA and SATA is simply the shape of the connector on the end of the cable.
  • Try another brand eSATA PCI express card.  If the Primera card is not recognized, it is possible there is a conflict between the chip on the Primera card and the computer motherboard that prevents it from functioning.  Please note: This option assumes you have ruled out a defective Primera eSATA card by speaking with tech support.  If not, please contact tech support, they may be able to send you a replacement card.

For Mac users:

  • eSATA to Thunderbolt Converter.  We have tested the LaCie eSATA Hub.  This device will allow you to connect eSATA drives such as those in your Blu-ray Disc Publisher to an iMac, a MacBook or any Mac that cannot use a PCI express card and also has a Thuderbolt connector.
  • USB to eSATA converter.  There are many different brands available. However, most of them do not work properly.  We have tested and approved the Vantec NexStar eSATA 6Gb/s to USB 3.0 Adapter (CB-ESATAU3-6).
