Question
How do I print my labels all the way to the center or outer edge of the disc?

Answer

How do I print my labels all the way to the center or outer edge of the disc?

To make the printer print closer to the center you need to adjust the Center Size in the driver preferences.  Go to the Start Menu - Control Panel - Printers - Right click on the Disc Publisher/CD Color Printer 6 and choose Printing Preferences.

To adjust center size, open the Calibration Options area.  Adjust the inner diameter.  Each brand of media will need specific adjustments to this value.  For CDs purchased from Primera you should enter a value of approximately 370.  For DVDs or hub printable media enter a value of 220.  The lower the number the closer to the center hub it prints.

To adjust the printable outer margin, adjust the value in the printable out margin setting within the Printing Preferences area.  In order to set this value, the Paper Size has to be set to Disc 120mm.  For CDs or DVDs purchased from Primera enter a value from 5 to 10.

  1. From Discribe, click the Print Settings button on the Robot Write screen.
  2. From Discus or any other printing application, Choose Print Settings or Setup from the File Menu.
  3. Go to the Copies and Pages drop down menu - Choose Publisher Settings.

The Inner Diameter setting refers to the size of the non-printed center on your disc.  The size of the center hub can vary from one type of media to the next.  This allows you to set the inner diameter in millimeters allowing you to print all the way to the center hub regardless of the type of disc you are using.  For the discs that Primera sells, use the following guide for Inner Diameter:

  • 38.3 mm for Primera's ToughCoat CDR
  • 24.9 mm for the Hockey Rink Disc, Business Card Disc and 80mm CD
  • 22.0mm for hub-printable DVDs

The Outer Margin refers to where the printing will cut off around the outer edge of your disc.  The size of the printable surface can vary from one type of media to the next.  This allows you to set the outer margin in millimeters allowing you to print all the way to the edge regardless of the type of disc you are using.  The smaller the number, the closer to the outer edge it will print.

Note on Image Format: Make sure that the image you are printing goes all the way to the outer edge or center when you are viewing it on screen.  For example if the image was originally created in another software application, such as Photoshop, and then imported into SureThing, the inner and outer edge may have already been cropped to look like a disc on screen.  If this is the case, the outer edge and inner diameter are set by the image and not by the driver.  It would be impossible to change the diameter or outer edge without editing the image itself.  To fix this problem recreate the image in Photoshop as a 4.72" x 4.72" square.  Do not make the image look like a disc on screen.  The driver will do all necessary outer and inner cropping.
