Question
If I use 10 SH for FY20 and I want to take one more class that is 3 SH, what are my options?

Answer

You can submit your TA/NCPACE application and receive funding for 2 SH. Your Tuition Assistance voucher will show a student share for the remaining 1 SH.  You will need to pay this student share to your school.  If you qualify for a Pell Grant through FAFSA, you may be able to use your grant to cover this cost.  You should also speak to your school’s financial aid office for information about available scholarships or in-school payment plans.  You may decide to use MGIB TA Top-Up or your Post 9/11 GI Bill to cover the student share, but using the Post 9/11 GI Bill to cover remaining tuition costs often uses benefits at a faster pace than using MGIB Top-Up.  If you entered service after 1 AUG 2011, you also need to serve two periods of qualifying service if you use MGIB Top-Up and then want to convert over to the Post 9/11 GI Bill later.  You can contact the VA Education and Training Center at 888-442-4551 for more information on using your GI Bill benefits in this situation.
