Question
Why do I have an EIC error ?

Answer

If you received an error stating that you are not qualifed to take the EIC because of your address. You have listed yourself as a resident of  GU, PR, AS, MP, or VI you do not qualify for EIC. If you have picked a resident state that is one of the 50 states and your mailing address is GU, PR, AS, MP, or VI, the resident state must match your mailing address.

You need to either change your state of residence to your state-side mailing address to claim the EIC or change your mailing address to GU, PR, AS, MP, or VI, and do not claim EIC.  The mailing address state and the state or residence must match for EIC claims.

How to correct this error:

From our homepage, click on sign in to access your account.  Select the current return that is rejected.

Next, select the "My Info" tab. Here you will either change the address to your stateside address in order to claim EIC or GU, PR, AS, MP, or VI, if you no longer wish to make the claim for EIC.

Once you have made your correction you will then save and continue to the end of your return and resubmit.

*We strongly recommend checking the status of your return in 24-48 hours using the Login to My Income Tax Return link to verify that your return has been accepted.
