The Payer Identification Number on a 1099-R must match the 1099-R. The entry must be numeric. There are no other characters entered and the ID has to match the Name of the Payer.
How to correct this error:
From our homepage, click on sign in. Enter the user name and password created when you started your return and the scrambled code at the bottom of the screen. Once logged in you will use the Quick Navigation links located above the online interview. This will allow you to navigate the site without having to save and continue through each page.
Next, select the Income tab on the top of the page and then the Retirement Fund and Pension Income link on the right side under Quick Navigation. You will then select 1099-R and choose to "Edit" your entry.
If you have entered the information exactly as it appears on your 1099-R, you will need to contact the issuing company for corrections. You may also be able to find out additional details by contacting the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or 1-800-808-4262.
Once you have made your correction you will then save and continue to the end of your return and resubmit.
