The Payer Identification Number on a 1099-R must match the 1099-R. The entry must be numeric. There are no other characters entered and the ID has to match the Name of the Payer.
How to correct this error:
From our homepage, click on sign in. Enter the user name and password created when you started your return and the scrambled code at the bottom of the screen. Once logged in, click on the tax year then "take me to my 20XX return". Click on "fix errors" or "continue where I left off". Go to the income tab, scroll down to the 1099-R entry and select to edit the information. Save and continue through the software to re-submit the return for filing.
If you have entered the information exactly as it appears on your 1099-R, you will need to contact the issuing company for corrections. You may also be able to find out additional details by contacting the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 or 1-800-808-4262.
